Hussam Hamza

After graduating as an engineer in fisheries and aquaculture in 2003, Hussam Hamza he joined the public administration in 2004, steadily advancing through positions of responsibility thanks to his dedication and close engagement with fishing communities.

As Advisor to the Minister for fisheries, aquaculture, and sectoral communication, he contributed significantly to the rapid expansion of the aquaculture sector, supporting a tenfold increase in production. He also played a leading role in crisis management initiatives, including efforts to foster social reconciliation between industries and fishermen, as well as improving the social acceptability of aquaculture in sensitive regions such as the Gulf of Gabès.

Throughout his administrative career, he led strategic development projects, collaborated closely with ministers, and coordinated international cooperation initiatives in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. He was the first to establish a recruitment and training program for fisheries control officers in partnership with the Ministry of Defense and coordinated a national task force dedicated to combating illegal fishing.

In 2018, he transitioned to international roles through the FAO and the GFCM as an Aquaculture Officer. Since 2020, as Head of the Aquaculture Team, he has been responsible for advising member countries on aquaculture development, providing technical assistance, and promoting innovation in sustainable practices. His responsibilities also include overseeing field missions, reviewing projects, and facilitating the transfer of new aquaculture technologies to member countries.

Today, his commitment to building a sustainable future for aquaculture remains stronger than ever, with a continued focus on innovation, strategic communication, and responsible governance.
