CO2 Footprint

CO2 Footprint

As part of AMBIO’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, a comprehensive preliminary carbon footprint assessment was conducted for the Aquaculture Congress 2026 in Athens, Greece. Building on the 2024 benchmarks, significant acts have been undertaken to reduce CO2 emissions, including:

  • Using brochures in electronic form, which circumvents the need for printed material.
  • Replacing polyester backpacks with organic cotton tote bags.
  • Optimized means of transportation proposed by AMBIO S.A.
  • Live streaming to reduce the necessity for physical travel.

The preliminary estimate calculates total emissions at 39.6 tons of CO2eq. The Carbon footprint estimate is mainly driven by increased international transport due to the influx of visitors following the Congress’s growth in popularity and scale. Nonetheless, the overall kg of CO2eq per participant has decreased approximately 3.3 kg since 2024, which shows the Congress’s sustainable character.

This assessment forms a cornerstone of AMBIO’s strategy and vision towards a carbon-neutral scenario.
