Dr. Alkistis-Chrysanthi Parpoura has been the General Director of the Directorate of Fisheries at the Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food since 2025. She is a Marine Biologist and holds a BSc in Biological Oceanography (1993) and a PhD in Fish Nutrition (1998). With more than 35 years of professional experience, she has extensive expertise in fisheries and aquaculture policy, sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems, and environmental governance. She previously served for many years at the Region of Western Greece (Regional Unit of Aetoloakarnania) within the Fisheries Directorate, and from 2014 onwards held the position of Head of Directorate, undertaking significant managerial responsibilities in regulatory implementation, inspections, investment planning, and participation in advisory and decision-making committees. In addition, she served as a lecturer-Professor at the Technological Educational Institute of Mesolonghi (1990–2010) and has actively contributed to national and EU-funded initiatives, including INTERREG Adrion ARIEL and ARIEL PLUS, promoting transnational cooperation, innovation, and sustainable development in fisheries and aquaculture. Dr. Parpoura has a strong scientific background, with publications in international peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences, focusing on fish nutrition and physiology, aquaculture systems, and the reduction of environmental impact in aquatic production.
