Dr. Nikos Papandroulakis

Research Director, Institute of Marine Biology Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC), HCMR

Since 2012, he has served as Research Director at the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture of HCMR, where he leads the Aquaculture Production Technologies Laboratory. He also actively contributes to working groups of DG MARE and the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM).

His research focuses on advancing technologies and rearing methodologies for Mediterranean aquaculture, with strong emphasis on translating research into practical applications for industry. A major part of his work is dedicated to fish farming in sea cages, including its role within the multi-use of marine space, with the aim of enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of the production process. He has also worked on the development of innovative tools for monitoring, operations, and decision-support systems, supporting the transition toward precision aquaculture and climate change adaptation in the Mediterranean sector.

He has participated in 44 national and EU-funded projects, either as coordinator or partner, and has authored four book chapters and more than 100 original papers in scientific journals. (https://imbbc.hcmr.gr/user/npap/).
