Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus
Dr. Maria Panayiotou is a Cypriot politician who has been serving as the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus since January 2024, under the government of President Nikos Christodoulides. Born on June 5, 1982, in Larnaca, she studied History and Archaeology at the University of Cyprus, graduating with honors in 2004. She continued her postgraduate studies at the University of Birmingham (MPhil in Modern East Mediterranean History) and in 2017, she earned her PhD in Modern and Contemporary History from the University of Cyprus.
Prior to her appointment, she served as Commissioner for the Environment (March 2023 – January 2024) and held significant roles in the political and research arenas, including serving as Head of the Press Office and Spokesperson for EDEK, and as a researcher for key academic and research projects.
